Human rights advocate says Donna Nelson would be home if Federal Government intervened in drug smuggling case

WA Indigenous woman Donna Nelson would be home and not spending her 10th month locked up in a Japanese prison if the Federal Government intervened when she was arrested, a human rights advocate says.

Foreign Prisoner Support Service senior advocate Martin Hodgson said the Perth grandmother was a “victim of a failed policy for decades” and argued the Commonwealth had to do more to fulfil its constitutional right to provide support to its citizens.
