India Canada row: Killers enjoy ‘wonderful life’ in Canada which shouldn’t be a hub of murderers, says Bangladesh Foreign Minister

Joining the ongoing dispute between Canada and India regarding Ottawa’s claims of the Indian government’s involvement in the June 2023 assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani leader and a designated terrorist, Bangladesh has also leveled accusations against Canada for harboring individuals deemed as “murderers”.

In an interview with India Today, Bangladesh Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen said, “Murderers can go to Canada and take shelter, and they can have a wonderful life while those he killed, their relatives are suffering.”

Bangladesh-Canada dispute lies in Ottawa’s decision not to extradite Noor Chowdhury, who has openly admitted to being the perpetrator behind the assassination of Bangladesh’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Momen also expressed his nation’s apprehensions regarding the presence of S.H.M.B. Noor Chowdhury in Canada since 1996.

Chowdhury is a key accused in the 1975 assassination of Bangladesh’s former President, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with most of his family.
Notably, Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Sheikh Mujib, is currently serving as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister.

Regarding Canada ignoring the bigger concern of terrorism in the name of human rights, Momen said, “The concept of human rights is being abused by many people at many times. This is really unfortunate because this has become at times an excuse for some people to protect killers and murderers and terrorists. That should change. And governments under the banner of human rights must not abuse this concept of human rights.”
