Infiniti Debuts First All-Electric Model At New Dawn Event In Tokyo

The Infiniti luxury brand announced four all-new models at its “New Dawn” event in Tokyo today. Two of these vehicles are all-electric concept cars, representing Infiniti’s plans to heavily electrify its brand by 2030. These four models also represent the future of Infiniti’s design language, which the automaker describes as “Artistry in Motion” with themes that include a wide stance, smooth bodywork, bright metallic accents, and dramatic lighting.

Three New Concept Cars

Three of these models were identified as concept cars, but Infiniti says they each represent specific production cars that will appear in showrooms in the coming years. Two of the concepts utilize electric drivetrains, confirming Infiniti’s plans to launch its first all-electric production cars soon. A new crossover coupe was among the world debuts, along with the next-generation QX80 – Infiniti’s largest SUV with three rows of seating.

Vision Qe Concept – Infiniti’s First Electric Car

With a low, fastback roofline and broad shoulders the Qe concept looks like a performance sedan meant for high-speed travel in comfort. As Infiniti’s first all-electric vehicle we expect it to have the power and refinement to support those visual cues. Infiniti describes the full-width front lighting as a “digital piano key” and the bright metallic wheels as “machine finished”. A precursor to the brand’s first all-electric car, we’d expect this one to arrive in showrooms relatively soon.

Vision QXe Concept – Infiniti’s First All-Electric SUV

The Qe electric sedan will be followed by Infiniti’s first all-electric SUV. The QXe concept leverages the sedan’s design language in an SUV, with added interior space for passengers and cargo. Infiniti says the QXe will showcase the brand’s latest advanced technology, likely to manifest across everything from gauge cluster and touchscreen displays to the audio system and driver-assist features.

QX65 – All-New Crossover

The SUV and crossover market has never been hotter, and Infiniti plans to court luxury buyers in this segment with its new QX65. A two-row model with aggressive proportions, Infiniti says the QX65 takes much of its inspiration from the brand’s iconic FX crossover, a model that added visual spice to the crossover segment when it debuted in the late 2000s.

QX80 – Infiniti’s Flagship SUV

Previewed by the QX80 Monograph concept that debuted in August in Pebble Beach, Infiniti has confirmed the next-generation QX80 will be in showrooms next year, offering a combination of spacious luxury and advanced technology, along with the same “Artistry in Motion” exterior design language seen in the QX80 Monograph concept and featured on the other three models debuting this week.

Between advances in driver-assist and convenience technology, plus the ever-present push toward electric drivetrains, every automaker is feeling the pressure to keep up with market competition and government regulations. Infiniti’s New Dawn event in Tokyo provides a peak at how the luxury brand intends to keep pace, and maybe redefine it in the area of exterior design language.
