MUMBAI: There has been a “substantial” increase in Indian students going to Ireland, said counsel general Anita Kelly on Friday.
Speaking to this paper, Kelly said from 800 Indian students a year in 2013, the number had gone up ten times to touch 7,000 in 2022. But most universities had seen a larger rise in student application and acceptance this year, she added, after an MoU for dual degree was signed between NMIMS’ College of Hotel Management and Shannon College of Hotel Management on Friday.
Quoting the Ambassador of Ireland to India Kevin Kelly, experts said it is believed that Indian student numbers are inching close to 10,000, with most students opting for post graduate studies, but an increasing number applying for undergraduate education too.
With Canada capping visa numbers for international students and Australia seeing large visa backlogs, Indians have been looking at other destinations to fly to that are anglophonic nations and Ireland has benefited, said experts.
