Jets activate running back Breece Hall off PUP list

In a 24-hour span, the Jets signed one top running back and activated another.

After Monday night’s news that the Jets added free agent Dalvin Cook, the team brought Breece Hall off the PUP list, giving it a 1-2 punch at running back with weeks to spare ahead of the regular season.

Hall, who is recovering from a torn ACL, was a limited participant at Tuesday’s practice. The Athletic first reported the news of his activation.

The Iowa State product impressed over seven games last season, rushing for 463 yards and averaging 5.8 yards per rush. His injury, suffered in a 16-9 win over the Broncos, marked the first crack in what became a spectacular collapse as the Jets lost seven of their last eight games and failed to make the playoffs.

Now, with future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the helm, making the playoffs is the bare minimum for a team that has gone all in, with Cook’s signing being the latest example.

It stands to reason that Cook and Hall will account for a majority of first-team snaps once both of them are full participants in practice — Cook did not practice Tuesday — and that there will not be room on the roster for both Michael Carter and Zonovan Knight once the Jets get down to 53 men.
