Justin Williams brings world’s biggest balloon show to Perth for the first time

Australia’s reigning balloon king Justin Williams is bursting to bring his biggest show yet to Subiaco for Fringe World.

Justin’s Big Balloon Show has been floating around the country since its debut in August, and will hit the Perth stage at the Regal Theatre for the first time on January 19 and 20.

The show is an explosive celebration of everything the magician and circus performer has learnt in his 20 years of show business, which reached a high last year when he won Channel 7’s Blow Up reality TV competition.

Williams said battling it out against the country’s best balloon artists to show off their biggest and wackiest balloon creations was the best experience of his colourful career.

“I’ve been performing around the world for many years but that was by far the most crazy, outrageous experience — that was so rewarding — that I’ve ever done in my life,” he said.

“And after winning, I thought I need to put everything I got into riding this momentum so I put together the best show I possibly could.

“It’s a childhood hobby, that turned into a passion, that turned into a full-time career, that takes me all over the world, and I honestly couldn’t be more happy.

“As corny as it is, I’m definitely living my childhood dream.”

Williams said he wanted to make the show as “big and crazy as possible” and it would feature his signature massive balloon sculptures including a nearly life-sized helicopter parked on stage.

And in a stunt he thinks could be “the world’s most dangerous”, Williams will balance on a board atop two balloons while juggling three dangerous objects and trying not to fall on to sharp spikes below.

“I’ve put everything into this show that I possibly could,” he said.

“I’m pretty confident to say this is definitely the biggest, best balloon show in the world because I’ve been a balloon artist for 20 years now and I’ve never seen any other at this level on big stages with big illusions, circus stunts and gigantic balloon sculptures.”

Williams and his Showmen Productions partner Sam Hume will also be bringing Circus The Show and The Greatest Magic Show to Fringe this year, with performances from January 16-20.
