It appears that the Trooping the Colour ceremony could look a little different this year.
As King Charles continues to receive outpatient treatment for his cancer diagnosis, the monarch’s upcoming celebration may see him stray from tradition ever so slightly.
Sources close to the palace claim that Charles could be driven in a carriage to the June 15 ceremony rather than riding horseback — something he would otherwise be expected to do.
Typically, Charles would ride on horseback from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.
However, given his ailing health, the monarch could be driven to the parade in a carriage so that he could watch the ceremony from a podium.
Despite not being at his best health-wise following his prostate procedure in January which was closely followed by his cancer diagnosis, the King is said to be determined to attend his official birthday celebrations.
Palace aides are believed to be doing whatever they can to ensure Charles is able to participate in the military ceremony if his health allows.
“There are a number of key events His Majesty would love to attend coming up in the diary and this is at the top of the list,” a source told the Daily Mail.
An official plan will be put into place closer to the time.

Trooping the Colour is a batch of ceremonial events that mark and celebrate the birthday of King Charles III — even though the monarch’s actual birthday is in November.
With senior members of the Firm pulling back from the royal fold one at a time over a myriad of health issues, the royal family has faced a difficult start to the year.
Charles has taken a noticeable step back from official duties in recent weeks, which has subsequently caused some confusion over upcoming royal engagements.
The Ministry of Defense took down a web page appearing to confirm Charles’s attendance at Trooping the Colour.
The same goes for Kate Middleton, whose name was quietly removed by the British Army’s website from the list of attendees for the Colonel’s Review after it was speculated that the event would be one of her first appearances since her abdominal surgery.
Prior to the removal of her name, it was reported that the Princess of Wales, 42, would have been examining the Foot soldiers as the honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards at the pre-Trooping the Colour event.
Following the inspection, the members will line the processional route along the Mall in London.
Middleton has been in attendance for all of the events since she married Prince William, 41, in 2011.
Since undergoing a “successful” abdominal surgery on Jan. 17, Middleton has remained largely out of the limelight, opting to recover from her home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
In her absence, several conspiracy theories have taken root.
Last week, Middleton’s senior staffers claimed that they had not seen or spoken to the Princess in recent weeks, and were not aware of her health woes until after her surgery.
