Kuwaiti boxers shine brightly at Gulf Youth Games

DUBAI, April 25: Kuwait’s medal tally soared at the first Gulf Youth Games hosted by the UAE, reaching a total of 63 medals, including 15 gold, 25 silver, and 23 bronze, as the champions of the boxing, table tennis, and volleyball teams added six new medals to the nation’s collection.

Kuwait’s national boxing team shone brightly at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi. Yaqoub Al-Shaheen clinched the gold medal in the 60 kg weight category, while Saud Farhan (80 kg), Yasser Hassan (71 kg), and Abdulaziz Buhaimed (67 kg) secured silver medals. Adel Al-Zuwair, a Boxing Federation’s Board of Directors member, commended the team’s performance, highlighting their spirit and determination despite late preparations. He expressed confidence in Kuwait’s boxing talents, foreseeing success in future competitions with enhanced focus and development.

The Kuwaiti women’s team attained the silver medal in table tennis, at the Shabab Al-Ahli Club Hall in Dubai. Players Rayan Al-Eidan, Khadija Al-Halwaji, Maryam Al-Halwaji, Jana Al-Eidan, and Fatima Al-Shammari demonstrated exceptional technical prowess, earning praise from Eid Al-Owaihan, a member of the Table Tennis Board of Directors. Al-Owaihan commended the competitive spirit displayed by Gulf teams and expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee for facilitating the participation of both male and female national teams.

At the Al-Nasr Club hall in Dubai, Kuwait’s youth volleyball team secured the bronze medal, despite a defeat to the Saudi team. Jaber Al-Marri, President of the Kuwaiti Volleyball Federation, commended the team’s performance and expressed optimism for future endeavors. Al-Marri applauded the players’ high spirits and their ability to proudly represent Kuwait on the podium, anticipating even greater success in upcoming tournaments.
