Coming off a turbulent pre-season break, Kylian Mbappe has appeared in sublime form and scored in every game for Paris Saint Germain so far this season. The Frenchman joined Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in an elite list when he opened the net for PSG in the previous league game against Nice on Saturday. Following Messi and Ronaldo, Mbappe is now only the third footballer in history to record at least one direct goal contribution in 15 appearances in a row. The 24-year-old has scored or assisted in 15 consecutive Ligue 1 matches for PSG since April last year.

Kylian Mbappe looked almost set to leave the French capital this summer owing to a contract dispute. PSG were adamant to extend Mbappe’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2024. Mbappe refused to accept the deal as he was eager to join Real Madrid. He wanted to part ways with PSG this summer as it would allow the La Liga giants to secure his signing on a free transfer.

But it was certainly not a fruitful deal for PSG, who didn’t want to release the star forward for free. So they demanded a hefty transfer fee of €250 million from Real Madrid. The offer, however, failed to receive a positive reaction from the Spanish cub.

Due to his bitter relationship with the club hierarchy, Mbappe was dropped from PSG’s season opener against Lorient. The decision backfired as the defending champions were held to a goalless draw in the match. Following that, PSG boss Luis Enrique recalled Mbappe to the starting eleven.

In his three league appearances thus far, the French striker has netted a total of five goals. Mbappe also got an assist to his name while representing France against Republic of Ireland in the EURO qualifiers during the latest international break.

Mbappe was the only standout performer for PSG in the last Ligue 1 game. Nice took an early lead in the game, with Teren Moffi breaking the deadlock. Mbappe needed only eight minutes to equalise it, bringing PSG back to the contest. Gaetan Laborde gave Nice a lead in the 53rd minute before Moffi extended the lead in the 68th minute. Despite conceding back-to-back goals, PSG looked desperate to make a comeback. Mbappe finally completed his brace in the 87th minute but failed to take his team across the victory line.
