‘Law & Order’ star mistaken for cop, rescues lost child

Mariska Hargitay helps a lost child reunite with her mother.

LOS ANGELES, April 18: During the filming of the final episodes of season 25 of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” in New York City last week, Mariska Hargitay, known for her role as Captain Olivia Benson, sprung into action to reunite a lost child with her mother.

An eyewitness recounted that Hargitay, mistaken for an on-duty police officer due to her TV role, comforted the scared little girl who had been separated from her mother in Anne Loftus Playground in Fort Tryon Park. The actress, embodying her character’s persona, quickly took charge and assisted in locating the child’s mother.

Interrupting a scene with co-star Ice-T, Hargitay played the role of detective off-screen, successfully reuniting the mother-daughter duo within 20 minutes. Following the heartwarming reunion, she provided comfort to both before returning to work.

Reflecting on her portrayal of Olivia Benson, Hargitay has previously spoken about channeling her character’s mindset in real-life emergencies. She emphasized the strength and fearlessness associated with Benson, describing it as a “perfect feminist story.”

As “Law & Order: SVU” approaches its silver anniversary on air, Hargitay remains deeply connected to the show, expressing gratitude for the journey alongside her cast and crew. She credits her upbringing, tinged with tragedy, for shaping her resilience and empathy, which she considers her “superpower.”

Despite the challenges depicted on screen, Hargitay continues to lead with her heart, embracing vulnerability alongside strength, and serving as an inspiration both on and off-camera.
