LGBTQ+ Uganda sculptor Leilah Babirye on art as activism – Channel 4 News

Sculptor Leilah Babirye began her art as a form of activism back home in Uganda, where being gay is a crime.

Forced to flee her home after being outed by a newspaper, the artist claimed asylum in New York. Now, her sculptures stand as monuments to the LGBTQ+ community.

We went to meet the artist at her exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
