Long Island exterminator Walter Rivas arrested, accused of filming 19-year-old undress

A Long Island exterminator was arrested Thursday for allegedly filming a 19-year-old undressing on a hidden camera he set up after getting chemicals on her clothing.

Walter Rivas, of Joroba Pest Control, was hired by the teen to exterminate her apartment in Mineola that afternoon, Nassau police said.

Rivas was spraying the home with a solution to get rid of pests when some of the chemicals got onto the young woman, according to cops.

He instructed her to immediately change her clothing, stating that the chemicals are poisonous and harmful.

As she was changing into clean clothes in her bedroom, the teenager noticed a bucket with a hole on her bed.

Upon a closer look, she found a cell phone inside the bucket that was on and actively recording through the hole, police said.

The victim immediately called police who came to her home and investigated the allegations.

Officers then arrested Rivas without incident shortly before 3 p.m.

The West Hempstead exterminator was charged with unlawful surveillance in the second degree.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Friday.

Nassau detectives working the case are asking others who believe they may have been similarly filmed or victimized by Rivas to contact the Third Squad at (516) 573-6353.
