After seeing all the hype surrounding The Roast of Tom Brady, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo was extremely disappointed when he watched the special himself.
The special, filmed live at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, saw a slew of comedians and former teammates taking digs at the seven-time Super Bowl champion. It garnered praise for the its unfiltered nature, with guests joking about Brady’s career, tumultuous family life, and even the late Aaron Hernandez.
Not everyone was amused, however. Brady’s ex-wife Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen was reportedly upset by how her family was portrayed.
During his weekly segment “What Are You Made About” on First Take, Russo detailed how disappointed he was after hearing so much praise about the roast.
“What garbage!” Russo said. “Oh my god! Kevin Hart, you’re not that funny, OK. Sorry! Jeff Ross coming in with his freaking O.J. [Simpson] thing on, no. 32. You’re not that funny either. [Nikki Glaser] is not that funny. Randy Moss stunk! [Julian Edelman] is not that funny! [Drew Bledsoe] is not that bad. He was the only one! How does Brady subject himself to that nonsense!”
Russo clarified that he didn’t take issue with the explicit nature of the jokes. He simply didn’t find them funny.
“That was the worst piece of garbage I have seen in a long period of time!” he continued. “That was worthless! And you got [New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft] — who should be sitting home eating cookies and watching I Love Lucy reruns before he hits the sack — sitting there watching this? He’s 85 years old! Bob, act your age, for crying out loud!”
