Although she’s been a singer ‘since the womb’, Debbie only began taking music seriously aged 18, and partially by accident. After finishing her GCSEs she failed to get into her first choice of sixth form, resulting in a last minute scramble to find another college. By then, to her disappointment, the economics course she had hoped to get on to was already full, sending her down the path of music tech instead. ‘The choices were either music tech or biology. I thought, hell no, I’m not doing biology. The fire and the flame was already there, but [music tech] added fuel to fire in terms of my addiction to music.’
