Mineral Resources says Iron Valley at risk of closing amid haul road dispute with Fortescue Metals Group

Mineral Resources boss Chris Ellison says the company’s Iron Valley mine in the Pilbara could be forced to close by the end of the year amid a long-running dispute over a haul road with Fortescue Metals Group.

In the latest development in the road access row, Mr Ellison claims MinRes will have to seek a Section 18 approval under Aboriginal heritage laws to construct a two kilometre-long section of haul road after Fortescue refused to allow the company ongoing access to an existing road that runs through its tenure beyond December 31.
