• Coming off a postseason berth, the Miami Marlins will be looking for a new general manager. Ng became the first woman general manager to lead an MLB team to the postseason earlier this month. (Oct. 16)

• The San Francisco Giants have interviewed major-league assistant coach Alyssa Nakken for their open managerial position, reports The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly. Nakken is believed to be the first woman to interview for an MLB manager role. The Giants intend to fill their open managerial position as quickly as possible, aiming for no later than five days after the World Series concludes. Internal candidates interviewed include Nakken, bench coach Kai Correa and third base coach Mark Hallberg. Potential external candidates include Stephen Vogt, Mark DeRosa, and perhaps even San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin. (Oct. 15)

• The Washington Nationals have hired away Brad Ciolek from the Baltimore Orioles to be their new director of amateur scouting, reports The Athletic’s Keith Law. Ciolek previously served as the Orioles’ director of draft strategy. • The Chicago White Sox announced that four members of their 2023 major-league coaching staff will not be returning to that staff in 2024. Current managerial openings

Cleveland Guardians — Longtime manager Terry Francona retired at the end of the season. He took over as Cleveland’s manager in October 2012.

Los Angeles Angels — Phil Nevin took over as the Angels’ manager on an interim basis midway through the 2022 season when the team fired Joe Maddon, and he was brought back without the interim title for 2023. But after a season in which the Angels missed the postseason, Nevin was let go.

New York Mets — Buck Showalter won the National League’s Manager of the Year award in 2022, when the Mets won 101 games in his first season as the team’s manager. The Mets lost in the NLDS, however, and then won only 75 games this season in one of the most expensive flops in MLB history. He was fired with a year left on his contract.

San Francisco Giants — The Giants were in postseason position coming out of the All-Star break, but a lackluster finish left them out of the playoffs and left Gabe Kapler out of a job just two years after he won the NL’s Manager of the Year award.
