A Nevada man who was allegedly decapitated by his girlfriend was found with smoke rising from his body — after his lover doused his remains in chemicals, according to a police report.
Devyn Michaels, 45, is charged with killing Johnathan James Willette, 47, after his headless body was discovered by his mother in their Henderson home on Aug. 7.
When police entered the bedroom, they smelled chemicals — believed to be bleach and ammonia — emanating from the smoking body, according to a police report obtained by KLAS.
His head was not in the room and has still not been found.
The victim’s mom told police that she had last seen her son the night before around 10 p.m. and had last seen Michaels around 1 a.m. while she was doing dishes in the kitchen.
Michaels told her Willette was drunk in bed and the two planned to get up early in the morning to register their kids at school.
Michaels — who is also married to Willette’s son “so he could help Devyn with her medical issues” — told authorities that she had left the house that morning after speaking with Willette’s mother.
Investigators later found Willette’s wallet, keys, social security card, and his phone with blood on it in her home, the police report said.
A polygraph test yielded a “significant reaction” when she was asked about Willette’s murder, the report added.
When police asked why she had a strong reaction, Michaels claimed that Willette was abusive toward her and would have his oldest child take showers in front of him.
The woman then allegedly told investigators that she bashed her boyfriend in the head with a wooden stick when he “tried to get her to conduct a sexual act on him” while she was rubbing his back in bed, according to the report.
Michaels claimed she never wanted to kill Willette — only hurt him enough to land him in the hospital so she could figure out what to do with the children.
She never admitted to cutting off Willette’s head.
It was not clear if her allegations of abuse were credible, the Las Vegas Review-Journal noted.
Willette’s cause of death is still pending, the coroner’s office said.
