A popular New York City TikTok influencer has died, the tragic news sending shockwaves through the social media community.
Eva Evans’ saddening death was announced by her sister Lila Joy on Sunday in a tribute post on Instagram that showed the deep love she has for her sibling.
“Yesterday my family received news that our sweet, fabulous, creative, caring, hilarious Eva, my beautiful sister, has died,” she wrote. alongside a smiling photo of Evans.
“After 24 hours, I still find myself in a constant cycle of denial and acceptance, so I know how unbelievable and hard to process this news will be.”
Evans, aged 29, was also a rising star in showbiz after she co-directed, co-wrote and starred in Prime Video series Club Rat.
While no cause of death has been shared, Lila also informed friends and fans that her family would be holding a special celebration of life on Tuesday in Manhattan.
“I wish I had Eva here now to refer to because she would have better words and know how to say what I don’t,” she wrote.
“I am keeping this brief, so we can plan for the next few days, but you’ll be hearing a lot more from me on how much Eva means to me and just how different the world will be be without her.”
Fans took to the comments section with an outpouring show of love and support for the young star.
“The loss is unfathomable, to those of us lucky enough to have known her brilliance and goodness, but also to the world, which is not the place it was meant to be without her,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “I’m so so so sorry for your loss. She was one of a kind. Her art and stories brought so many of us NY’rs joy and humour during tough times. This icon will be missed.”
“Heartbreaking. Eva was a beautiful and brilliant soul,” a friend wrote. “I remember meeting her years ago at 4 in the morning and talking about our favourite works of art. The world has known no one like her and never will.”
Evans has more than 305,000 followers on TikTok and 28,000 followers on Instagram where she frequently posted about life in New York City as a budding filmmaker.
Her five-episode series sees Evans play a “self-absorbed influencer” who “attempts to re-enter the chaotic New York City dating scene after a candid video of her humiliating breakup goes viral.”
Evans stars alongside Noa Fisher and Marcela Avelina in the episodes, which range from five to 10 minutes long.
