One bettor banked on the Lions offense and lost big on the NFL’s opening night.
Jared Goff needed to throw a second touchdown over the remaining 47 minutes to cash this colossal $155K bet on BetMGM, one that would’ve paid out $119.230.77 at -130 odds if it won.
The Detroit Lions drew first blood Thursday night when quarterback Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown cutting across the middle of the field for an easy passing touchdown in the first quarter against the Chiefs.
But Goff barely threw in the red zone from that point on, and this bettor is likely fuming at receiver Marvin Jones Jr. for his brutal fumble near the opponent’s 10-yard line in the second quarter.
The Lions’ passing attack was slicing and dicing the Chiefs’ secondary on the drive before the costly turnover.
Goff was 6-for-6 on the drive for 83 yards and looked poised to throw for his second touchdown.
But Detroit only entered the red zone one time after the Jones fumble and ran the ball two times with David Montgomery, resulting in a rushing touchdown.
The Lions — nursing a one-point lead — barely threw the ball in Chiefs territory the rest of the game.
Betting on the NFL?
The Lions would run 29 plays in Chiefs territory, throwing the ball 10 times and running 19.
Controlling the game at the line of scrimmage is all Detroit would need, thanks to Kadarius Toney’s ineptitude.
The start of the season can be characterized as a disaster for this bettor who bet huge and lost early on “Thursday Night Football.”
