NFL Week 5 Monday Night Football Odds: Raiders vs Packers

The Monday Night Football matchup on Oct. 9 is drawing more watch and wager interest. The Raiders and Packers are featured on an ABC prime time clash from Las Vegas, where the Super Bowl will also be played on February on Feb. 11, 2024.

Neither the Raiders (1-3) or Packers (2-2) are playing like title contenders, or even divisional threats in the early season. Friday’s announcement of the return of QB Jimmy Garoppolo (concussion) to the lineup following a one-game absence has shifted the Raiders from underdog to slight favorite as fans and bettors watch and wager on theWeek 5 games Sunday.

The game total has been bet up to 44.5 or 45 at leading online sportsbooks. But prime time NFL night games are just 5-10 over/under this season, including 1-5 on Monday Night Football with offensive production and scoring severely limited for the MNF matchups thus far.

Since 1990, teams that started 2-2 made the playoffs 37.1% of the time (118 of 318). But those that were 1-3 advanced to the postseason at a rate of just 14.5% (34 of 235).

Beyond the moneyline odds, spread and over/under bets, fans and bettors will be adding many prop bets on the players and game. More will be available and updated on game day.

Some popular player props offerered at FanDuel Sportsbook include:

  • Packers QB Jordan Love – Over/Under 235.5 passing yards
  • Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo – O/U 239.5 passing yards
  • Packers RB Aaron Jones – O/U 47.5 rushing yards
  • Raiders RB Josh Jacobs – O/U 75.5 rushing yards
  • Packers WR Romeo Doubs – O/U 47.5 receiving yards
  • Packers WR Christian Watson – O/U 44.5 receiving yards
  • Raiders WR Davante Adams – O/U (TBD) receiving yards
  • Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers – O/U (TBD) receiving yards

Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is one to watch and wager on as he faces his former team for the first time since Green Bay traded the star receiver to Las Vegas in 2022.

Packers two-time All-Pro cornerback said this week that “It’s pretty evident he’s the best in the league. I can go on and on, but (Davante) is the best. I’ll leave it at that.”

Bookmakers agree Raiders have virtually no home-field advantage

You might want to check your sportsbook prop bet offerings for odds on a Green Bay kick block, fake or a TD return. Former Raiders special teams coordinator and interim head coach Rich Bisaccia is the Packers special teams coach and assistant head coach. Bisaccia was a popular coach of players and fans who guided the Raiders to the playoffs under difficult mid-season circumstances with Jon Gruden’s resignation under pressure during the 2021 season.

“I rarely look in the rearview mirror,” Basaccia said during an early season press conference.

Carlson Brothers get their kicks for Packers and Raiders

Anders Carlson and Daniel Carlson will be kicking against each other for the Packers and Raiders. Anders Carlson is a rookie, and All-Pro Daniel Carlson is in his sixth year in the NFL. He’s made 107-of-115 field goals over the last three seasons (93 percent). Together, the Carlson brothers are 9-for-9 on field goals and 15-for-15 on PATs this season.

On Monday night, they’ll have 27 people in attendance as part of Team Carlson, including both parents and all three brothers, two of which will be on the field. In the Athletic interview with the Carlson family, oldest brother Nils is credited for making Anders and Daniel good kickers. They both sent from high school in Colorado Springs to kick in college at Auburn. Nils was a soccer goalkeeper and his two younger brothers would pepper him with shots every summer for 10 years.

The Carlson’s father added coach Basaccia “Believed in Daniel when no one believed in him and he believed in Anders when a lot of people maybe didn’t believe in Anders,” Hans said. “We’re very thankful for Rich as a coach and as a person.”

Green Bay at Las Vegas

Power Plays stats and computer projections show this as a very close matchup in total yards, but the fewest combined yards (600) of all the Week 5 NFL matchups.

According to Sharp Football Analysis, here are some additional stats to digest for the Monday Night Football matchup.

  • Green Bay is 30th in the league in first-half point differential (-36) and first in the league in second-half point differential (+40).
  • The Raiders are 31st in first-half point differential (-37).
  • The Raiders are last in the NFL in turnover differential (-9) through four weeks.
  • 33.0% of the Green Bay set of downs have led to a third and long (needing seven or more yards), the highest rate in the league. The league average is 22.2%.
  • Just 14.4% of the Las Vegas set of downs have led to a third and long, the second-lowest rate in the league behind Miami (14.0%).
  • 3.7% of the Raider rushing attempts have gained 10 or more yards, the lowest rate in the league.
  • 5.8% of the Green Bay rushing attempts have gained 10 or more yards, 30th in the league.

So the running games for both teams have been very inefficient with the Raiders last in the league rushing for 65 yards per game and the Packers 30th at 74 yards per game. Both teams rush the ball less than 23 times per game, and teams that do that in a game this season are 3-35 straight up (SU) and 8-27-3 againts the spread (ATS). I document rushing stats and boxscore data each week.

In addition, QB Jordan Love has completed just 10-of-30 (33.3%) passes when pressured, the lowest rate in the league. Love is going to throw an interception (-132), and mad Max Crosby is going to be pressuring him into more incompletions and mistakes.

Raiders and Green Bay Packers will be the first NFL game where the stadium is powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

The Packers are 4-0 ATS in their last four Monday Night Football appearances. But those meaningless trends don’t matter with new quarterbacks and changes in personnel and coaching. This is Jordan Love, not Aaron Rodgers leading the Packers offense. Green Bay’s best offensive performance was in Week 1 with 329 yards at 5.5 yards per play against the Chicago Bears NFC-worst yards per play defense. The Raiders pass defense has been quite solid holding quarterbacks to 202 passing yards per game. That includes star QB Justin Herbert to 174 passing yards in a 24-17 defeat last Sunday.

The Raiders have yet to score 20 points in a game this season, which makes the coaching seat of Josh McDaniels a little hotter under the Al Davis Memorial Torch at Allegiant Stadium.

“The fire that burns the brightest in the Raiders organization is the will to win.”

Las Vegas gets a victory under the Monday Night lights and Al Davis’ torch.

You can bet on it.
