NMC’s WFME recognition opens global doors for Indian medical graduates

NEW DELHI: Indian medical graduates can now practice or pursue post-graduation in countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has received recognition from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). This recognition applies to all 706 existing medical colleges under NMC regulation. New colleges established in the next decade will also automatically gain WFME accreditation.
Dr. Yogender Malik, a member of the Ethics and Medical Registration Board of the NMC, commented, “This accolade empowers our students with the opportunity to pursue their careers anywhere in the world, while also making India an attractive destination for international students due to our globally-recognized standards.”
As part of this recognition, the NMC will receive an official award letter and a recognition certificate. WFME accreditation aligns Indian medical education with global best practices, enabling graduates to pursue further training and practice in countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
This recognition enhances the reputation of Indian medical schools and professionals on an international level and promotes collaboration and exchanges. It also fosters a culture of quality assurance, continuous improvement, and innovation in medical education.
The WFME is a global organization dedicated to improving the quality of medical education worldwide. This recognition reaffirms the NMC’s commitment to the highest standards in medical education and accreditation.
“The WFME’s recognition underscores that the quality of medical education in India adheres to the gold standards,” added Malik.
