  2. Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) / Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL): Rs. 550
  3. Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) / Persons with Disabilities (PwD): Rs. 275

Eligibility criteria
Before applying for the UGC NET 2024 exam, candidates must carefully review the eligibility criteria:

  1. Qualification: Aspiring candidates should possess a master’s degree or its equivalent from any recognized university or college.
  2. Age Limit: For candidates applying for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the age limit is 30 years or below as of the first day of the relevant month.
  3. Candidates belonging to reserved category SC/ST/PWD/OBC (Non-creamy layer) are given a 5-year age relaxation.
  4. A minimum of 55% marks, for general category students, and 50% for SC/ST/PWD/OBC (Non-creamy layer) in the qualifying examination is required to be able to sit for this exam.
  5. Candidates in their final year of study or awaiting results are also eligible to apply.

Examination details
Duration of exam: Candidates appearing for the UGC NET 2024 examination can expect a comprehensive test that spans a total duration of 3 hours. This time frame is allocated for candidates to demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency in the subject matter.
Question pattern: The examination is divided into two papers- Paper I and Paper II.
Paper I is designed to assess the teaching and research aptitude of candidates, while Paper II evaluates their in-depth knowledge in their chosen subject.
The exam has a total of 300 marks. In total, candidates will have to answer 150 questions during the examination. The question paper will be made available in both Hindi and English.
Marking scheme: For every correct response, candidates are awarded 2 marks. What sets this examination apart is the absence of negative marking for incorrect answers. This means that candidates can attempt all questions without the fear of losing marks for incorrect responses.
