One of Europe’s cheapest cities to launch free urban beach this summer – and you can get there for £13

A FREE urban beach is set to open in one of Europe’s cheapest cities.

Budapest is known for its affordable prices, from £2 pints to £13 flights.

And the Hungarian capital is about to increase its offering for those holidaymakers who are a little cash-strapped.

Despite being known for its thermal baths, the city is set to benefit from the opening of an urban beach.

Located at Kopaszi Dam on the banks of the Danube River, SHO Beach will be free to enter.

The beach, which is slated to open next month, will have a small stretch of sand golden sand, which will back onto a green lawn.

Visitors will be able to swim in the water for free or relax on sunbeds – although these may need to be rented.

Beachgoers will need to pay to rent equipment like water bikes, paddle boards and giant Jenga blocks.

The sandy beach will also have its very own beach bar and restaurant, which will serve up things like burgers and cocktails.

Free entry will be extended to both locals and holidaymakers alike.

The no-cost entry has been introduced because organisers want as many people as possible to visit the beach, regardless of their finances.

It is hoped that the sale of rental equipment and food and drink will keep the business afloat throughout the summer.

SHO Beach is around 30 minutes away from the centre of the city on public transport.

There are plenty of other things to do in Budapest, including the Market Hall, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Szechenyi Baths – one of the city’s most well-known thermal baths.

Budapest is also home to one of the most beautiful cafes in the world, The New York Cafe.

Far from being a simple cafe, it’s an ornate building with grand columns fancy decor and even live classical music.

Brit holidaymakers itching to visit Budapest will be pleased to know that Ryanair is currently operating a flash sale, with flights from £12.99.

Destinations in the sale include Spain, Portugal, Italy and Hungary, flying from a number of UK airports.

For example, Brits can fly to Budapest for just £13 from Manchester Airport, if flights are purchased in the sale.

There are only 500,000 seats up for grabs, so you’ll have to be quick.

While the flights have to be booked today, they can be used for travel up until April 30.
