In a series of tweets, he also highlighted that it is the first time India is hosting the G20 summit and said during its G20 presidency India “actively voiced the developmental concerns of the Global South”.
Modi said the theme of this summit, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family, One Future’ is rooted in the Indian cultural ethos and resonates with the country’s worldview that the whole world is one family.
He reiterated his recent remarks that the time has come for a humancentric approach to growth instead of a GDP-centric one. “India also places great emphasis on a humancentric way of furthering progress. It is important to emulate (Mahatma) Gandhi ji’s mission of serving the underprivileged, the very last person in the queue,” he tweeted.
At the summit, India will be looking at ways for “furthering strong, sustainable, inclusive and balanced growth”, Modi said.
“We seek to accelerate progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Green Development Pact for a Sustainable Future, and strengthen multilateral institutions for the 21st century,” he said.
“We attach immense priority to futuristic sectors such as technological transformation and digital public infrastructure. We will also collectively work to further gender equality, women empowerment, and ensure world peace.”
The prime minister will hold a series of bilateral meetings with visiting leaders and heads of delegations from the G20 nations to “further deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation”.
He expressed the hope that the visiting dignitaries will enjoy the warmth of Indian hospitality.
President Droupadi Murmu will host an official dinner on Saturday and the visiting heads of state and government will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on Sunday morning.
At the closing ceremony on Sunday, the G20 leaders will share “their collective vision for a sustainable and equitable ‘One Future’, together like ‘One Family’, for a healthier ‘One Earth’,” Modi said.
