Parkerville bushfire: Community support gives Moody family a chance to celebrate Christmas

There’s been an outpouring of gifts, food, and donations for the Moody family, who lost their home in the Parkerville blaze just days before Christmas.

Julie Moody, her husband Craig, and 17-year-old son Sam lost everything including all their Christmas presents when a bushfire destroyed their home in just six minutes.

“We went to see the damage and it was just devastating,” Mrs Moody said.

“To see mine and my husband’s new cars destroyed it was pretty heart wrenching really.

“It’s just endless the things we remember everyday, especially the Christmas presents that are gone.”

Despite losing everything the outpouring of support from the community means the family will still be able to celebrate Christmas.

All Aboard Seafoods have offered to cook Christmas dinner for the family and their guests they planned to spend the day with while others have chipped in to get Sam a new rally car.

“We went shopping to try to get some presents for Sam at least and the amount of people that recognised my face and offered help and discounts is amazing,” Mrs Moody said.

The Moody’s home was among three properties destroyed in the roaring fire on Thursday, which ignited when a tree fell onto a power-line on Granite Road.

“The rally community has been fantastic to try and get Sam back into a race car for next season.

“Words can’t express how grateful I am as that’s the only thing that makes him happy. We have nothing to give him so everybody is amazing.”

The caravan was one of the only items to survive the blaze, giving the family an opportunity to have a bit of reprieve over Christmas.
