A spokesperson for the cruise company said it was working with local authorities on a search and had offered support to the missing person’s family, according to reports.

The passenger was identified as Indian national Reeta Sahani, 64, by the Strait Times, a Singaporean newspaper.

Her son, Apoorv Sahani, told the publication they had asked to review CCTV.

“We think she may still be on the ship, stuck somewhere,” he said, adding his mother could not swim.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Singapore launched a search on Monday morning and issued a broadcast to other vessels in the area to be on the lookout.

The Spectrum of the Seas berthed at Singapore “to support the investigation” before departing about 4.30pm.

The international cruise lines association reports about 21 overboard incidents annually worldwide.
