Polestar 5 to launch in 2024

Polestar plans to launch the Polestar 5 — the production evolution of the Polestar Precept — in 2024, describing it as the automaker’s “commitment to sustainable and engaging electric mobility”.

It showcased some of its forthcoming models at last week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the 650kW Polestar 5 verification prototype.

A wide range of innovative materials are showcased in the Polestar Precept, including 3D-knit upholstery that’s made to size from recycled yarn using PET bottles so there are no offcuts, and, in partnership with Swiss company Bcomp, woven flax fibre interior panels called “ampliTex” and exterior panel backing called “powerRibs”, also made from flax and inspired by the vein structure of leaves to increase stiffness and strength.

“In consequence, the panels can be made thinner, cutting down both weight and material amount,” Polestar says.

“Furthermore, powerRibs reduces vibrations by a staggering 250 per cent and behaves better in crash situations when compared with more conventional materials.”

Tech features include the latest human-machine interface that uses eye tracking and proximity sensors to adjust the displays to the driver’s movements, and an Android-based system with Google’s navigation and voice recognition software.
