He has injured 57 per cent of his brain and is paralysed down one side, a family member told 7NEWS.com.au.

“He has seven broken ribs, a broken collar bone and a damaged eye socket,” his loved ones wrote in a GoFundMe for the family.

Simmons’ two young boys, aged three and nine, are currently at home in Queensland with their mother while his partner remains with him overseas.

She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was not injured.

While Simmons had travel insurance, his hospital costs are not being covered.

His family is now facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs for his treatment and medevac flight home to Australia.

“It’s very difficult for the family,” his family member said.

His mother has considered selling her home to fund his medical needs, they said.

“They’re in shock, trying to figure out how to move forward.”

“His family are trying everything they can to get him back to Australia to be near his loving family,” his loved ones wrote on GoFundMe.
