‘R23m mooted’ for Oscar Pistorius’ memoir as publishers line up

Less than a week after former Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius was released on parole for the murder of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, growing reports suggest that he could cash-in on millions of rands for his memoir.

PUBLISHERS OFFERING MILLIONS FOR OSCAR PISTORIUS’ BOOK

The Sun reports that publishers are queuing at Pistorius’ doorstep with fees of up to £1 million (about R23 million) being discussed.

The world-famous double amputee, who was released from the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre on Friday, is now in the care of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius. He lives in the upmarket Pretoria suburb of Waterkloof where he has his very own maximum security garden cottage.

According to a source who spot to the UK publication, Pistorius spent a lot of time writing while in prison and is already attracting the interest of publishers for his memoir.

“Some prisoners do this to show the parole board that they have accepted what they have done. There are already a lot of publishers that are interested,” said the source.

REEVA STEENKAMP’S FAMILY OUTRAGED OVER BOOK

However, the news have sparked fury in the Steenkamp household as the family wants to put everything behind them.

“But publishing a book, and particularly making money out of it, has gone down very badly with Reeva’s family.

“They desperately want to get on with their lives but this will add to their grief.”

In a statement released by Reeva’s mother, June Steenkamp, on Friday, she the pain of losing her daughter is “still raw and real.”

“Has there been justice for Reeva? Has Oscar served enough time? There can never be justice if your loved one is never coming back, and no amount of time served will bring Reeva back. We, who remainbehind, are the ones serving a life sentence, ” her statement read in part.
