Rahul Gandhi to meet 50 Karnataka leaders today

With the Congress aiming for big gains in Karnataka in the Lok Sabha polls due in less than a year, Rahul Gandhi has called a meeting of state leaders in Delhi on Wednesday to sort out differences among them and strategise on repeating the assembly election performance. Fifty Congress leaders, including MLAs, will meet Gandhi in three groups.

He will review implementation of campaign pledges and share inputs on how the leaders should helm the government without giving any room for the Opposition to attack it. Deputy chief minister Shivakumar told journalists in Bengaluru on Tuesday that the party leadership would discuss political strategy for elections and assign responsibilities.

The Congress has roped in a team of external strategists which gives inputs to the leadership. Gandhi gets inputs regularly, which he will use to give broad directions to state leaders at Wednesday’s meeting. The party’s faith in the inputs has only increased after its landslide win in the May 10 polls.

Some Congress MLAs are unhappy that there has been a serious shortage of funds and ministers have not been listening to their requests. Among invitees is senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad, who has fallen out with Siddaramaiah after he was denied a berth. He has been unhappy that the first budget did not provide funds for welfare of Backward sub-sects such as Ediga, Billawa and Deevara.
