Rangers’ Jacob Trouba exits with upper-body injury

Jacob Trouba exited with what the Rangers’ described as an upper-body injury after one shift in the second period of the team’s 5-1 win over the Capitals on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

“He’s being evaluated right now,” head coach Peter Laviolette said after the game. “We’ll find out more [Thursday].”

With Washington on a power play that carried over from the end of the first period, the Rangers captain was out for a penalty-kill shift early on.

He collided with Capitals forward Tom Wilson during the 1:15 of time he was on the ice and presumably suffered his injury then.

In 33 games this season, Trouba has two goals and 11 assists with a plus-seven rating.

Mika Zibanejad skated in his 800th NHL game, as well as his 519th in a Rangers jersey, Wednesday night.

“It’s a lot of games,” he said. “It’s 800 more than I thought was going to play when I was a kid. Something you can only dream of, even just playing one game.”

The Rangers’ No. 1 center is coming off a successful week, when he posted three goals and four assists for seven points in the previous three games.

It earned Zibanejad a shout-out from the NHL as the league’s “Second Star” of the week. He is the first Ranger to get such an acknowledgment from the NHL.

Extending his point streak to eight games with two assists Wednesday night, Zibanejad has now registered points in 16 of his last 17 contests.

Over that span, the 30-year-old has collected 11 goals and 14 assists.

The production has officially ramped up for Zibanejad, who has 13 goals and 22 assists through 33 games.

His 10 multi-point performances this season are good for second on the Rangers, trailing only Artemi Panarin’s 14.

Igor Shesterkin earned the starting nod in goal, marking his 21st start of the season.

The Russian netminder stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced in the win.

The Rangers’ 11 one-goal wins entering Wednesday night’s game was tied for the second most in the NHL. They are also 7-0-0 when tied after two periods this season.
