Reliance Jio: Jio successfully tests 5G on 26GHz: DoT

Reliance Jio has successfully tested 5G services on both 26 GHz or millimetre (mmWave) band and 3300 MHz spectrum in Gujarat, becoming the first telco to achieve the feat. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT’s) Gujarat service area wing carried out the successful testing to check minimum rollout obligations.

“Gujarat LSA conducted Phase-I of 5G roll out testing in 26 GHz and 3300 MHz spectrum allocated to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited,” DoT’s Gujarat wing said on Twitter.

In last year’s auction, Jio had obtained 5G spectrum in various bands like 700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz. As per rules, mobile operators are required to rollout services in at least one city within one year.

Jio’s 5G services are already available in more than 6250 cities and towns across the country. Jio is the only telco, which is rolling out 5G services in standalone mode utilising spectrum in 700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz.
