Rude to Stare: Luxury lingerie store raising the fashion stakes in Claremont

Some of the world’s finest luxury lingerie labels once reserved for the streets — or bedrooms — of Paris and New York can now be found in Perth.

Maryanne Young has drawn on her lifelong love of fashion and couture to create her own bespoke lingerie store Rude to Stare in Claremont with a goal to empower women through beautiful intimates.

The store, opened last year, is the only place in Australia you can find Parisian-inspired, New York crafted label Kiki de Montparnasse and other luxe brands usually only found hanging in high-end department stores.

To up the opulence, the store also offers private appointments where shoppers have the boutique all to themselves to explore, sip champagne and try on gorgeous pieces.

“I wanted to create a really beautiful, unique space where women can have a bit of impulsive fun and celebrate themselves,” Young said.

“A place to come and explore on your own or with friends to play and to indulge in the beauty of the collections and find pieces that will elevate your days — and nights.

“We are like your bold, effortlessly chic best friend that knows how to have fun, that tells it like it is, is always in the know and always has your back.”

Young has built a career on her impeccable taste and eye for detail, starting in the fashion industry as design assistant to Eugenio Zanchetta at iconic Australian label Coogi, famous for its luxurious and colourful knits worn by the likes of the Notorious B.I.G.

She went on to work as a buyer for high-end Melbourne boutique RPM before striking out on her own.

Young said she liked to blur the lines between under and outerwear to help women feel empowered through their clothing choices, promising the store had something to make every women feel special.

“Lingerie has the power to shift your perception of self, it literally supports and shapes you,” she said.

“It says so much about your personal style, but it’s up to you how much is ever seen or shared, I think it’s the most important thing you choose to wear.”
