The Sandton Hilton Hotel will rebrand, becoming the first property in the NH Collection in South Africa.
The rebranding follows an agreement between Cavaleros Group (the hotel’s owner) and the international hotel group Minor Hotels.
MINOR HOTEL GROUP
Minor Hotels operates 27 hotels and resorts in eight countries on the African continent.
Moneyweb reports that the Minor Hotel group will begin managing the former Hilton Sandton from 1 July 2024.
“We are thrilled to sign this strategic partnership with The Cavaleros Group to launch NH and soon NH Collection in South Africa and with it launch our first property in the country,” said William Heinecke, chair and founder of Minor International.
HOTEL REFURBISHMENT
Initially, the hotel will operate as NH Sandton.
However, it will undergo a major refurbishment, before being rebranded as NH Collection Sandton.
The NH Sandton will feature 329 rooms and suites, two bars and restaurants, an executive lounge, conference facilities, a gym, and a swimming pool.
SANDTON HILTON PARTNERS WITH MINOR HOTELS
CEO of The Cavaleros Group, Penny Cavaleros, said the decision to partner with Minor Hotels is significant for the group.
“Over the past three years we have engaged with all international hotel groups and concluded and recognised that Minor Hotels’ history, speed and culture is synonymous with our core [Cavaleros] group values. We are currently considering several hospitality opportunities across the continent and have commenced our due diligence process,” Cavaleros said.
CAVALEROS GROUP
The Cavaleros Group was established in 1926. In addition, it is among the largest privately-owned property groups in South Africa.
However, the group has assets both inside and outside of the country.
Also, it owns other hotels including The Maslow Hotel in Sandton. This property is managed and operated by Sun International.
Cavaleros’ primary focus includes data centres, commercial, industrial, hospitality, and retail properties.
DURBAN HILTON
Durban’s Hilton hotel, located adjacent to the city’s International Convention Centre (ICC) has remained shut for an extended period.
It was expected that the hotel would reopen by March this year. However, the property has not yet reopened its doors.
Thus, it will lose business opportunities created by hosting guests and delegates attending this year’s edition of the Indaba Trade Show.
Moreover, Africa’s Travel Indaba is an iconic African leisure trade show, hosted by South African Tourism.
