Saudi King Salman admitted to hospital for routine medical checkups

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdul Aziz

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, April 24: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdul Aziz has been admitted to King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah for routine medical checkups, the Saudi Royal Court announced on Wednesday.

The 88-year-old monarch, who ascended to power in 2015, is undergoing standard medical examinations, which are expected to last a few hours.

State media released footage on Tuesday showing King Salman participating in a weekly cabinet meeting.

This isn’t the first time King Salman has sought medical attention at the hospital. Nearly two years ago, in May 2022, he was admitted for a colonoscopy and stayed for over a week for further tests and rest, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

In 2020, King Salman underwent surgery to remove his gall bladder.

Additionally, in March 2022, he was hospitalized for what state media described as “successful medical tests” and to replace the battery of his pacemaker.

The current hospitalization is part of routine medical care for the king, and no serious concerns have been raised about his health.
