Singer Tyla’s hilarious Met Gala moment goes viral

Singer Tyla truly committed to her first Met Gala, wearing a sand sculpture-inspired gown by designer Balmain.

While the 22-year-old stunned in photos, behind-the-scenes video has gone viral showing a team of men assisting her up the stairs of the red carpet due to the tight fit of her dress.

The dress was so tight Tyla could not walk up the steps and is picked up and carried.

“It’s fashion! Tyla at the Met Gala,” the X caption read alongside the video that was shared to social media.

“Tyla getting the princess treatment she deserves,” one said.

“Queen behaviour, she looks stunning,” another said.

“Legend has it she didn’t climb a single stair, the princess treatment we all deserve honestly,” another agreed.

However, not all viewers were so impressed by the gown.

“I don’t care what the dress looks like. If you’re going to make an appearance you should be able to walk in it. Come on,” a commenter said.

“OK, you know there are tons of stairs going up. The first requirement, wear something you can walk in,” added a second.

“OMG, that dress is ridiculous! She’s too beautiful to be wearing something like that!” another agreed.

The hourglass silhouette and prop appear to be inspired by the incorporation of “time” in this year’s theme, “Garden of Time”.

“The inspiration behind this creation stemmed from a desire to redefine boundaries and transform a transient material into an everlasting masterpiece,” Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain told Vogue.

“The idea of sculpting a garment from something as ephemeral as sand ignited my imagination and I could not be happier with the end result.”

Meanwhile, Tyla told the outlet: “We were looking to do something creative, something completely different for my first Met Gala.

“So when Balmain showed me the idea and sketch I just knew it was perfect.

“The idea was crazy and I loved it. I’m excited and a little nervous but I’m looking forward to having a fun night at the Met!”
