Saturday Night Live alum Joe Piscopo said he went to Donald Trump’s hush money trial to “show loyalty” after he was arguably the most surprising name from a large entourage that attended this week.
Piscopo, who now hosts a radio show on AM970, joined Neil Cavuto on Wednesday to discuss his surprise background appearance at Trump’s trial where the former president is facing more than 30 felony counts for falsifying business records. Trump is accused of concealing hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to conceal an alleged affair. Trump has denied knowledge of payments and that the affair ever occurred.
Piscopo recounted to Cavuto the story behind an interview he did with Trump earlier this month at a campaign event in Wildwood, New Jersey. The comedian and actor said he expected to be with the other press, but Trump brought him to a “VIP tent” to give him some exclusive time.
“Donald Trump gave me an exclusive interview for not a long time, about five minutes, but I just I chatted with him. The motorcade came in, he came right to me. I’m Italian. I don’t forget loyalty, you know what I’m saying? I’m telling you, I don’t forget these things,” Piscopo said.
He added that he wanted to show up as a sign of “respect” for Trump, especially after he’d granted him the interview.

The comedian also claimed he pitched a “presidential inner-city task force” to Trump as an effort to “rescue” struggling cities. According to Piscopo, Trump loves the idea and wants him on the task force.
“I said I’m going to show up just to show respect to President Trump,” he said. “That’s all that was, a sign of friendship. I’ve known him 100 years, and we’ve always had a nice relationship, so I wanted to show loyalty because there’s none of that anymore. The president showed me great loyalty in Wildwood so I wanted to show up.”
