If you want to brighten up your Mother’s Day weekend, head to Subiaco for this year’s Subi Blooms, which will see installations from more than 18 renowned florists along a floral trail from the train station to Theatre Gardens. From May 10-12, you can check out the floral hot air balloon from State Of Art, suspended floral sculptures by Fox & Rabbit, a dreamy swing set by Pop Floral, a ‘write to your Mum’ station by The Flower Girl and flower card-making workshops by Flower Nation. You can also check out Stem By Stem, a large-scale floristry-inspired light installation, on Seddon Street. Only fresh or preserved flowers can be used and at the end of the weekend, they are repurposed into free bouquets for new and expectant mums at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
WA’s largest showcase of Aboriginal art, Revealed, is back at the Fremantle Arts Centre May 10 to August 4 (opening night is May 9)— and for the first time, it is in Indigenous hands, in the charge of the Aboriginal Arts Centre Hub of Western Australia. The exhibition features more than 150 works by almost 70 artists (12 independent and the rest representing 27 Aboriginal art centres) in mediums spanning painting, drawing, silk print, textiles, photography, animation, glass sculpture and linocut. The popular Revealed Art Market will be held on the front lawn 10am-5pm on May 11, with 100 per cent of sales returned to the artist and art centres.
