Street Profits talk aggressive side, C4 partnership, WWE future

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have spent the past seven years together as the Street Profits in WWE.

But the two-time WWE tag team champions find themselves at a potential crossroads in their career in the ring — on the outside looking in on the title picture.

Even so, they remain two of the company’s best personalities and spokesmen and will be front and center in conjunction with the new C4 Ultimate Energy x WWE collection of energy drinks and pre-workout mixes — the first of a three-year partnership — launching ahead of  SummerSlam and being exclusively sold at GNC.

Ford and Dawson took some time to talk about their workouts and careers in some Q&A with The Post’s Joseph Staszewski.

(Edited for clarity and length)

Q: Where do you guys feel the Street Profits are right now? It feels like for the first time you guys are outside the tag team title picture.

Ford: I feel like we are in the process of a new resurgence. In life, you go through these journeys and you learn more about yourself on the different obstacles you go through. For us, it’s shaping up and adding more layers to The Street Profits. We haven’t been in the tag team title picture for a while, with that comes motivation of training harder, training better, being more focused and also to add more layers to your character, more layers to who you are as a person and as a tag team. Not a struggle, not a rut or anything else, just a part of deciding what needs to happen to take us from here to here.

Q: When you have done this successfully for seven years, is there that temptation to tweak or change things a little bit to get that resurgence?

Dawkins: You are always looking to add more. You are always looking to adjust. We have been doing pretty good for seven years, so we are boys and all that stuff. So we have always pushed each other to be better. But we also know that we have another layer we haven’t reached yet, but we’re getting there. Once we get to that layer we haven’t reached yet, it’s a wrap for everybody. It’s over for everybody. They ain’t even gonna come close. You haven’t seen the aggressive side of us yet.

Q: We just saw a second singles world championship added. Do you think at some point WWE may need to split the tag titles up again just to get more teams in the title picture?

Ford: I love both sides. With the tag team titles split, there are more opportunities for tag teams to have tag-team title matches and be involved in separate brands and you get different feuds. The other end of it is like, having both tag team titles merged together just makes the importance of the tag team championships as a whole more important because it’s that one supreme tag team that everyone is gunning for.

Dawkins: It’s hard to choose. Obviously, you want to get more opportunities out there at the same time, nothing is better than being the mountain top of the tag team division.

Q: When you are doing as much traveling as you do, how do you guys balance the idea of here is my ring work, my workouts and my recovery time?

Ford: Thank god for Google Calendar and the alarm clocks and everything else it kind of keeps me on task with everything I’ve got to do in a day, especially days like this with TV. You get to the venue around 2 a.m., but before that, you have to handle everything you need to handle before you get to the venue. Because once you get to the venue there is not too much wiggling around you can do. I usually try to wake up early, do a workout, get at least two meals in before I get to the venue and then once you get to venue it gets busier.

For the weekends we have the live events, basically we are driving from each show to the next show and then flying home on Monday morning. I feel like what keeps us to task is obviously C4. Obviously being around your tag team partner and your wife [Bianca Belair] who are fueling on C4 as well, but all of it’s a system.

Q: It feels like whenever you see backstage videos of wrestlers, someone is holding an energy drink or a pre-workout, have those things become even more important when you are on the schedule that you are?

Dawkins: Absolutely, C4 is easy, it’s right there. Guys like us, WWE Superstars being on the move, professional athletes you need something that’s quick, right there easy to drink, easy to mix and C4 gives you all of that and more, It helps you get through the workouts, gives you a lot of energy to go out there and perform in front of the people, in front of the bright lights. You get that clutch gene.

Q: What’s the craziest type of workout you guys have done or maybe just one thing you tried?

Ford: It’s a Crossfit workout where basically you had to do 10 rounds of 10 power cleans, 10 barbell burpees, 10 pull-ups, and then an 800-meter sprint. I’m like this is fricken crazy, but I did it.

Q: Montez, any update on when we might see your Hulu series “The Crawfords” with Bianca?

Ford: Very, very soon. I would say between October and maybe February.

Q: You were recently in Vegas filming your five-year wedding anniversary. What was that like to have the camera be a part of it and just get to spend a couple of days away celebrating?

Ford: I think the good thing about doing the show is the same thing as working with Dawson, I don’t feel like it’s work. I’m actually having a great time with the person I love and that I want to share this life with. It doesn’t necessarily feel like work, just another reflection of how we are as people outside of wrestling, too. It never feels like work with her or Daws. It just feels like we are having a conversion or a moment shared with just a camera right here [motions toward his face].

At first, it takes some getting used to. It’s not a normal thing. You got a camera there. It’s a little awkward at times in the beginning because you’re just talking and this camera. What are you going to say? What is your expression to that, but after that, you get used to it. I have to watch what I say because I have a little potty mouth.

Q: Angelo, we have seen you in a lot of the videos at Natalya and TJ Wilson’s wrestling training sessions. Why have those been important for you to go to and what have you gotten from the sessions?

Dawkins: TJ and Nattie they always want to work on the little stuff and honestly the turnaround the people have said that I’ve had I honestly feel the same way, too is because I’ve just been going there a lot and been unlocking a lot of potential in me and untapping potential that I have just going in there and practicing and honing the little things and not being afraid to try new things. It’s super important I go there each week because I’m always learning something new. TJ is like an encyclopedia of knowledge. Nattie as well.

Q: When The Usos and Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens main event WrestleMania, does that change the way you guys think about it being possible now for tag teams now that it’s happened?

Dawkins: Absolutely. It was a cool sight to see The Usos main eventing Night 1 of WrestleMania vs. K.O. and Sami. It just shows that it could happen. It’s very possible and we have another goal to strive for as a tag team between me and Tez. We want to be main event. We want to be in the mode and that spotlight as well. Tag team wrestling is at an all-time high. It’s gaining momentum. It’s part of the main story now. It’s everywhere.

WWE’s C4 line launches July 27 with three exclusive pre-workout flavors (Pomegranate Piledriver, Nectarine Guava Knockout and Bare Knuckle Blood Orange) and two new energy drinks (Berry Powerbomb and Rutless Raspberry).
