Holiday makers looking to make the most of Anzac Day weekend are in for a treat, with the mercury tipped to rise across the country.
Temperatures are forecast to steadily rise across southeast Australia from Thursday, as many skip Friday for a long weekend.
In Sydney, highs of 25C are forecast for the weekend, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, beating back the oncoming winter chill.
Possible showers of only up to 1mm are forecast for the Harbour City for Saturday, before temperatures rise to 28C as early as Tuesday.
With a shower or two forecast for Melbourne through Thursday and Friday, the windy city is expected to reach a high of 21C on Sunday.
The warmer weekend weather comes with a caveat though, with BOM forecasting minimum temperatures as low as 8C on Sunday.
Further south, Adelaide is forecast to likewise climb from 19C on Thursday and Friday to a high of 21-22C on Saturday and Sunday.
Canberra, where Anzac Day traditionaly marks the start of “heater” weather, is forecast for a cloudy weekend with a high of 22C.
True to the decades-old trend, the mercury in the nation’s capital is tipped to fall as low as 2C before rising again into next week.
To the south, Hobart will reach a high of 19C over the weekend – before dropping to 14C next week – while Brisbane will remain steady.
Families heading to the Sunshine State will be met with forecast highs of 25C , with an up to 60 per cent chance of showers on Sunday.
In the nation’s northern and western capitals, Darwin is forecast to sit at a steady 35C, while Perth will drop from 27C on Friday to 25C.
