There comes a time when all good things must come to an end — and that’s what’s about to go down with “The Crown.”
The Netflix royal drama will finally conclude on Dec. 14 when the last six episodes of the final season drop.
The teaser for the conclusion was released on Friday and gave fans a glimpse of the royal family and their struggles as they enter the modern era.
The final episodes will feature a plethora of historical events from the late 1990s and into the mid-2000s.
The trailer showcases events such as a young Prince William (Ed McVey) as he enters college at St. Andrews, his faithful meeting with future wife Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy) while at school, his father Prince Charles (Dominic West)‘s relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles (Olivia Williams) and more.
The logline reads: “Prince William (McVey) tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother’s death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion. As she reaches her Golden Jubilee, the Queen (Staunton) reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles (West) and Camilla (Olivia Williams) and the beginnings of a new Royal fairy tale in William and Kate (Bellamy).”
An elderly Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) and Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce) contemplate the Firm’s role in British society and their ever-lasting impact on the world.
The aging monarchs encounter much political and personal strifes as their reigns almost come to a close.
Among the other events that the season will cover, include Prince Harry (Luther Ford)’s infamous Nazi costume debacle of 2005, Princess Margaret (Lesley Manville) and the Queen Mothers’ 2002 deaths and the premiership of Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The clip also shows a teenage William struggling to grapple with his mother, the late Princess Diana’s death and becoming uneasy with getting back to his normal life.
In another scene, the Queen is sitting with her private secretary who relays to her that the public finds the royal family useless and out of touch as she prepares for her Golden Jubilee in 2002.
One shot shows William and Harry attempting to deal with the media and the thousands of screaming fans as they get on with their daily lives.
“The boys need you know more than ever,” Camilla advises Charles, who claims he can’t connect with his sons.
Perhaps one of the biggest shocks of all in the teaser, is season one stars Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby reprising their roles as the young, 1950s versions of the Queen, Philip and Margaret, respectively.
The sovereign fondly watches old reels of her family during a happier time, and there is a flashback of Foy and Smith in character joyfully riding in a car.
A quick shot of the night William fell in love with Middleton at a college fashion show comes to life, bringing a much-needed smile to his face.
“You are the longest serving monarch in history,” one of the Queen’s advisors tell her. “People will want to celebrate your reign.”
“But what about the life I put aside… the woman I put aside to become Queen?” she tearfully asks.
Other aspects that season six will reportedly include is an appearance by Middleton’s younger sister Pippa (Matilda Broadbridge) as well as the moment Charles met the Spice Girls in 1997 during the Prince’s Trust Concert.
