The ‘fantastical’ new theme park with artwork rides and interactive exhibits backed by Drake – and it’s now open

A LONG-FORGOTTEN amusement park has made an unexpected return – and this time with a world-famous celebrity at the helm.

Uncovered in old shipping containers in Texas, called Luna Luna had been lost to time.

However, Luna Luna wasn’t your regular amusement park.

Created by some of the world’s most illustrious artists like David Hockney, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, it’s brimming with artistic masterpieces.

And the rides? They’re also artworks, each with a unique story.

But it’s now reopened and hip-hop superstar Drake is behind this revival.

The rapper and his team at DreamCrew turned this forgotten gem into something completely new.

Renamed ‘Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy’, the reconstructed park is set to serve as an experiential art exhibit, showcasing the work of artists like Salvador Dalì, David Hockney, and more.

Calling itself the “world’s first art amusement park,” the website states: “Open now, Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy unravels the tale of the most fantastical fairground the world has ever known: a spectacular showcase you must see to believe.”

Slated as a journey through art and fun, most of the park’s original attractions, like Basquiat’s Ferris wheel, are too valuable to be rideable.

There is, however, an interactive element to most of them, with parkgoers being able to walk through some – offering a more immersive experience than your bog-standard art exhibition.

Luna Luna first appeared in the 1980s in Germany garnering over 240,000 visitors. But after a short run, it disappeared into obscurity.

Now, decades later, Drake‘s team are said to be working hard to preserve the original spirit of the park.

Lumi Tan told CBS News: “What makes Luna Luna so special is these marquee names that were locked away in this art-historical secret,” she said.

“André Heller saw it as breaking down the boundaries between artists of different generations and disciplines. You have Keith Haring, young pop artist, but then you also have Roy Lichtenstein, one of the founders of pop art.”

“In art sometimes, there’s a shying-away of spectacle, like, it’s supposed to be serious and very intellectual and not so much experiential. At Luna Luna, it was the complete opposite.”

Tickets range from $20 – $85, with discounts for young guests and veterans.

In other theme park news, Universal Studios confirmed early plans to open a 500-acre theme park in the UK.

A spokesperson confirmed that land had been bought just outside London.

And a tiny theme park in the UK is one you won’t have heard of – and it’s found in a castle.
