Irish woman Sophie McDermott shared the map hack online – and showed off how it works.

Sophie explained that keen travellers can add their holiday to-do lists onto a map so they always know what’s nearby.

She explained that coffee shops, brunch hangouts, museums, and bars can be split into sections and marked with an icon.

The jet setter explained this helps when she’s wandering the streets of a new city.

She said if she’s in a certain spot and feels like a cup of tea, she can pull out her map and see what’s around her.

Sophie, who posted the advice to TikTok, said: “It has come to my attention that some of you are not planning your trips like this.

“This is the only way to plan a trip or plan a weekend away.”

Sophie said in the video, posted to @thatverybadlawstudent: “The best part about this is you can open this map up on Google Maps on your phone and you can just search around all the different areas and when you tap on an icon it will tell you what that icon is.

“The reason I love this is because I love being really well planned in advance – I like knowing where I’m going to eat, what I’m going to drink, etc.

“But sometimes I like to just wander around and this is a great way because say you find yourself here and you don’t know where to go for lunch you can open up this map and you can see where you’ve pre-saved things.

“And by dividing things up into different layers you can select what you’re looking for and then it will only show that.”

Sophie broke down step-by-step how people can set up the icon-filled map, too.

She explained people would have to Google ‘My Maps’ online and find the city they’re about to get off to.

The Irish woman said: “You’re going to search and start adding all the of recommendations that you’ve been given and you’re going to add this to your map.

“Then on this map you can add different layers.”

She then goes on to make a ‘coffee’ layer, adding: “I can add as many different things in here that I want so I just fill it up with loads of different coffee shops.”

People were quick to thank Sophie for the tip, with one writing: “This is the thing I have been trying to do for so long.
