This $3.29 ALDI Find Will Be On My Table All Summer Long

I mostly make my own potato salad. Many grocery store potato salads are more mayo than potato, and unless I’m going to my local co-op or Whole Paycheck, I usually steer clear of them.

As usual, though, ALDI has convinced me otherwise, and I’ve recently fallen in love with the store’s Steakhouse Potato Salad.

What I Love About ALDI’s Steakhouse Potato Salad

For starters, this potato salad only costs $3.29 per pound. At higher-end stores, even regular potato salads easily cost double this price. It also tastes much better than most potato salads I’ve bought at other stores—including the fancier ones.

And this potato salad is fancy indeed. It’s chock full of red potatoes with the skins still on, along with little flecks of fresh herbs, but what makes it extra special is the bacon. Bacon does, truly, make everything better, and every bite of this potato salad is studded with itty bitty bacon bits.

Sweet and smoky, this potato salad’s got it going on. I’m not sure why ALDI calls it Steakhouse. Maybe the name implies that it’s more upscale than the regular or mustard varieties. The name could also refer to the smoky flavor and the bacon.

That said, any barbecue joint worth its brisket serves a great potato salad, and ALDI’s Steakhouse Potato Salad ranks up there with some of the best versions I’ve enjoyed alongside slabs of ribs. In fact, I’d rename it Barbecue Potato Salad.

How I Serve ALDI’s Steakhouse Potato Salad

I’m planning on serving it at all my summer parties. It’s perfect with anything fresh off the grill, served on the patio or at a potluck. I’ll be taking some to my friend Jen’s house this Memorial Day weekend—it will be an excellent pairing with the smoked ribs we’ll be having.

It’s also perfect for serving alongside sandwiches, and you can even dress it up with some chopped fresh herbs on top for weekend brunch. 

Though this potato salad is perfectly good eaten straight out of the container (which I’ve done a time or two), I usually serve it with a splash of vinegar or a squeeze of lemon and a snip of chives from my garden. The salad is on the sweet side so I like to add a touch of something acidic to balance it out, and fresh herbs like chives, dill, parsley, or summer savory add a brightness that can’t be beat.
