‘This isn’t going to be good’: Mum’s final thoughts before horror accident

A mother says she is lucky to be alive after a collision with a four-wheel drive while riding her bicycle in Central Queensland.

Crystal Jasperson was riding through a roundabout at Berserker St and Kerrigan St in Rockhampton when the 39-year-old and the driver of a Toyota LandCruiser collided.

Ms Jasperson was put on crutches and suffered cuts and bruises as a result of the accident, with lingering pain to her neck and hip.

“The last thing I saw was a big black bulbar, and I just thought ‘this isn’t going to be good’,” Ms Jasperson said.

“As soon as I felt the impact my mind went straight to my kids. In that moment, I was terrified they were about to lose their mum, which is a horrible thing to have to keep grappling with.”

Shine Lawyers Rockhampton solicitor Jeri Murray said the “confronting” crash was captured by a home security camera.

“Watching the footage, it’s plain to see this could have had an incredibly tragic outcome,” Ms Murray said.

“She’s (Ms Jasperson) struggling to work because of the pain, and it makes it so much harder to take care of her kids.”

Ms Murray said Ms Jasperson had since logged a claim for compensation, as her family faced financial burden.

“Crystal’s got a long road ahead to fully recover both physically and mentally from this crash,” Ms Murray said.

“We’ll look to ensure she can concentrate on getting better rather than worrying about how she’s going to provide for her kids.”

Shine Lawyers said police did not take any further action following the crash and the driver had not been charged.
