TikTok video exposes horrendous Pilbara conditions working with swarms of flies

Australia’s warm weather is known to attract one type of pesky insect that we have no choice but to put up with.

However, one FIFO worker in WA’s Pilbara has experienced a whole new level of being swarmed with flies.

The reality of his railway job’s working conditions “out in the middle of nowhere” in Port Hedland was exposed in a TikTok video that showed the man covered in tiny, sticky flies.

The irritable insects swarmed his hands, drink bottle, hat and clothes as the worker attempted to cover up as much of his body as possible by wearing facial protection.

Text over the 12-second video read: “Go do FIFO they said”.

“Make a giant fly trap,” one viewer said.

A former FIFO worker said: “Haha, don’t miss that.”

Another person on the app questioned: “Is it worth it? (genuine question).”

To which the rail worker replied: “Money is good. Love the lifestyle. Love the roster 2-1.”

Another viewer mused: “FIFO actually stands for Flies In Flies On. In and on every f***ing inch of you.”
