Tony Romo’s call on Lamar Jackson’s pass to himself didn’t go over well

It doesn’t seem to be an NFL game on CBS if fans aren’t poking fun at something Tony Romo said on air.

That occurred with a little over five and a half minutes left in the first half of Sunday’s AFC Championship game when Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had to catch his own pass after Justin Reid had blocked the attempt.

Jackson managed to get the five yards he needed for the first down and then some, but Romo was mesmerized by the sequence and called it “one of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen.”

“This is intercepted 100 percent by the Chiefs Reid and Lamar uses the instincts,” Romo said. “The God-given gifts, the awareness to beat him to the punch and makes one of the greatest plays you’ll ever see in a championship game.”

Fans were quick to jump on Romo on X after the comment.

“Cant be 100% if it wasnt done 100% lol,” one person wrote on X

Another fan watching the game posted a gif of Fred Flinstone calculating numbers with the caption, “The math ain’t mathin.’”

“I find it hilarious when Tony Romo is telling QB’s what they need to do to win a conference championship,” a third person wrote.

Despite the effort, Jackson and the Ravens didn’t do much more on the drive and ended up having to punt the ball away.

Baltimore went into halftime down 17-7 after adding a field goal with four seconds left in the half.

It wasn’t the only comment by Romo the first half that fans jumped on.

Romo also uttered another odd sentence after Jackson fumbled the ball and Kansas City recovered.

“In games like this, the ball matters more than any game,” Romo said.

The Chiefs are playing to return to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in the last five years, while the Ravens are trying to make their first appearance in the big game since 2012.
