Tropical Storm Ophelia puts Yankees, Mets, Jets games in flux

If you’re heading to a sporting event this weekend in the tristate area, you better bring a rain coat.

Tropical Storm Ophelia slowly is making its way up the East Coast.

New York Yankees

The Yankees were scheduled to play the Diamondbacks Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Yankee Stadium, but Saturday’s game has already been postponed.

It will be “rescheduled for a yet-to-be-determined date.”

The Yankees aren’t in serious playoff contention but the D’backs are in the hunt for an NL wild card, and that could force MLB to come up with a plan to make up Saturday’s game.

The Yankees and Diamondbacks are scheduled to wrap their series Sunday, but the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, which posted a Hazardous Weather Outlook in the Bronx for flash flooding, doesn’t look promising:

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 64. Northeast wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

New York Jets

The Jets and Patriots are scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday at MetLife Stadium, which also is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook for flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service:

Sunday

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 63. Northeast wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

New York Mets

Heading down I-95, the Mets are in Philadelphia this weekend and are scheduled for games Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service is not promising, with a Hazardous Weather Outlook for in effect for the area there as well:

Saturday

Periods of rain. High near 64. Breezy, with a northeast wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
