Urgent warning for travellers as Scots airports expecting ‘busiest ever’ Easter weekend

TRAVELLERS are being urged to plan ahead as airports warned of a surge in passenger numbers over the Easter weekend.

Edinburgh Airport says more than 170,000 people are expected to jet off for a break from the capital.

Meanwhile, bosses at Glasgow Airport are anticipating 90,000 holidaymakers at the start of the Easter school break this weekend.

Around 330,000 people are expected to pass through the terminal during the entire school break.

Thousands of families will be heading to destinations such as Turkey, Tenerife and the Costas in Spain.

Passengers are reminded to arrive at the airport for their airline’s check-in desk opening, and prepare for security by following the 100ml liquid rules and removing large electrical items like laptops and tablets from their bags.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “There’s always a buzz during Easter weekend and we look forward to welcoming the tens of thousands of passengers travelling to the airport from across Scotland and beyond each day, whether it be to take a well-earned break in the sun, see a new city, or visit family they haven’t seen in a while.

“It’s also a time of year many people take the opportunity to visit Edinburgh to see what our fabulous city has to offer, and journey onwards to experience the very best of Scotland. We’re proud to be the gateway for that.

“All of this is possible thanks to our brilliant staff who will be keeping things moving throughout the weekend, and ensuring everyone gets to where they need to be.”

Meanwhile, Glasgow Airport will have will have extra staff in place to help guide passengers, especially those with young children, through check-in and security.

There will also be entertainment on offer for youngsters including a visit from the Easter Bunny, who will be on hand to dish out delicious chocolate eggs.

Ronald Leitch, Interim Chief Operating Officer at AGS Airports, which owns Glasgow Airport, said: “After what has felt like a particularly long and rained-soaked winter, we anticipate the airport will be consistently busy during the next three weeks as hundreds of thousands of passengers head off for a well-earned break and the chance of some better weather.

“As this is the first prolonged school holiday of the year, the airport will be busier than usual with more than 23,000 passengers travelling through on each of our peak days.

“We would remind passengers to arrive at the check-in time specified by their airline and prepare for security in the usual way.”
