USMNT captain Tyler Adams absent from Bournemouth squad due to back spasms

USMNT captain Tyler Adams was absent from Bournemouth’s matchday squad for the defeat against Luton Town in the Premier League due to back spasms, manager Andoni Iraola said on Saturday.

Adams recently returned from a lengthy absence following hamstring surgery he sustained at his previous club, Leeds United.

He was named in a Premier League squad for the first time since March 2023 after being listed among the substitutes for Bournemouth’s fixture against Sheffield United in March.

The 25-year-old notably earned his first start for Bournemouth on March 30 in their 2-1 victory against Everton, where he played the full game. However, he was an unused substitute in their 1-0 triumph against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Iraola said, as quoted by The Associated Press: “Tyler woke up two days ago with back spasms and he wasn’t available.

“It is nothing related to the hamstring.”

Adams, who joined Bournemouth from Leeds in the summer, faced challenges with a hamstring issue after being sidelined for the final three months of the 2022-23 season. He made a brief appearance, playing 20 minutes as a substitute in the 2-0 Carabao Cup third-round victory against Stoke City on September 27, before returning to rehabilitation.

Carlton Morris’ dramatic late winner saw Bournemouth lose 2-1 at Luton on Saturday.
